For teens and parents
Teens, parents and privacy
A plain account of who decides, who learns what, and when that changes.
Consent to start
For a teen under 18, a parent or guardian gives consent to start therapy. Ohio law has narrow exceptions. If you are a teen or a parent and want to know how they apply, ask us before the first session and we will explain in plain words.
What a teen's parents are told
Parents hear the plan and how they can help, and they join part of some sessions. What a teen says in session stays private, with the exceptions below.
When that changes
If a teen or someone else is at risk of serious harm, we tell the people who can keep them safe. The law also asks us to report abuse. We explain this to teens and parents in writing at the first session.
